Community Service Essay :: Community Service Essays
Peoples lives are smorgasbordd every twenty-four hour period by their actions and watchs. This past summer, I participated in a federation assist project, an experience that opened my eyes in many ways. I was a volunteer at the County Memorial Hospital. In my time as a volunteer at the hospital, I was able to meet patients and module members from all over the world and learn just about their life experiences. hearing to all of their stories has made me truly appreciate everything which I have. One experience that I will always remember is the day I was cart track errands and had the opportunity to meet a very special patient. She was a sweetly woman who was originally from Mexico. We were having a friendly conversation when she asked me about wherefore I chose to do community service at the hospital. I explained to her that I planned on majoring in the medical field one day and I was working on obtaining community service hours. We got to talking about the education syste ms in our countries. In our conversation I learned that nevertheless selected people were given the opportunity to receive an education in her inborn country of Mexico. She told me about the poor education system and the extreme poverty which debilitates Mexico. As a United States citizen, I am provided with a strain of options for education. People in Mexico must fight to obtain access to any education. This made me realize how truly fortunate I am.At the descent of this volunteer experience, I walked in hopeful that I would gain most knowledge about the different careers that the medical field possesses, but I got so much more than that. I learned that community service is about making an impact in the lives of other members who share my community. At the end of volunteer services I have decided on a major, I am now striving to become a physicians assistant. In this position, not only do I get to care for patients, but I am presented with the opportunity to change their live s. I will be able to see firsthand the smorgasbord of cultures from around the world.
